Rugby Football has always been discussed in great depth and with considerable passion. It has not always been easy to participate both as a player or spectator unless one was a member of the armed forces based on Cyprus.

Any form of participation was limited to media coverage particularly television. This all changed very dramatically late in 2003 during a discussion (one of many such discussions) fuelled by the Rugby World Cup. The outcome was to form a team in Limassol similar to that already up and running in Paphos. Information went out initially by "word of mouth" for anyone wishing to train and play or purely to support. What took everyone by surprise was the scale and enthusiasm of the response - Limassol Crusaders RFC was born and has kept on growing. Training commenced initially using the dead ball area behind the goal at one of the local soccer clubs and when that facility was withdrawn the club undaunted by the set back, continued training on Limassol beach. Eventually temporary facilities (including a pitch) were secured at the Elias Beach Resort Hotel.

February 2004 brought our first competitive fixture against Paphos. Although soundly beaten enthusiasm did not diminish. The team continued to train hard and take part in "friendly" matches whenever possible before moving to our current facilities at the AEK Achileas Stadium where our home games and training take place.

The club has continued to progress, becoming a member of the Joint Services Rugby and along with Paphos and Nicosia was invited to participate in their league for season 2004/05. Although the club has continued to grow and develop it has not forgotten its original aim, which was to promote and develop rugby within Cyprus and in January 2005 this culminated with the formation of Limassol Crusaders Juniors for which the response has been astounding. Supporters are an integral part of rugby and we actively encourage all to come along and support on match days and help make it a fun social outing for the family.

In the 2006-2007 season the dream of a Cyprus national team was realised when Cyprus hosted the Greek national team and although Cyprus where very much the underdogs they came out victorious by 39 – 3. Limassol Crusaders had five players in the winning squad. This season a Limassol Crusaders youth tour to Athens was organised. The Limassol team rose admirably to the challenge of playing a select fifteen from the three Athens based youth teams and won handsomely by 43 points to zero.
