Cyprus v Bulgaria

Saturday 13 May 2023, kick off 14:00

Our upcoming fixture against visitors Bulgaria on Saturday 13 May is fast approaching and preparations are underway for our last match of the season. We’re currently due to play at the KOA (Cyprus Sports Organisation) training pitch in Engomi, Nicosia. This unusual venue is the result of our normal home – the Stelios Kyriakides Stadium in Pafos – potentially being unavailable on the 13 May due to the domestic football schedule. The Cyprus Football Association has advised us that it will not be able to confirm availability of the Pafos stadium until the final week in April when the football standings are known. Only then will we, as a federation, be able to confirm whether our match will be played in Nicosia or Pafos. Exact pitch location details will be shared in due course if the match is to go ahead in Nicosia.

We’re aware that this situation is not ideal and, despite our best efforts to secure a permanent and reliable home, we have not been successful so far. We must satisfy

many factors to meet the requirements of Rugby Europe and World Rugby for every match we play and some of these requirements have ruled out the use of pitches such as the one at Maroni for our international fixtures.

We remain grateful for the support from our fans on island and around the world and despite it not always being plain sailing, you can be assured that there is a committee of dedicated rugby nuts working furiously behind the scenes to keep the sport alive in Cyprus.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and urge you to keep an active eye on our social media profiles or sign up to our newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out on match updates.

Yours in rugby,

The Cyprus Rugby Federation
