What does pre-season look like for Cyprus Rugby?
Cyprus Rugby is busy preparing for the forthcoming 2023/2024 season, which means gathering the playing group together and formulating how we intend to play this coming season.
The majority of the Cyprus Squad players have recently started pre-season training with their respective clubs, so now is a good time to bring them all together in advance of our first games in the Rugby Europe Conference league.
The venue for this pre-season gathering will again be Altrincham Kersal RFC, where we had a very successful training session prior to our last game, which resulted in a victory over Bulgaria in May. We are pleased to have been invited to use their first-class facilities once again and be hosted by a very well run and friendly rugby club.
The squad selected to attend is larger than a normal 23-man matchday squad, which is a deliberate decision as it means that the coaching staff can have a look at and assess the group altogether. It will include a number of new prospects who have not yet pulled on the Mighty Mouflon jersey.
Saturday 5 August 2023 is a date for your diaries when a Cyprus Barbarians team will play a training game against Altrincham Kersal rugby club 1st XV.
The game will allow the coaching staff to see players in a game situation, experiment with positional play of various players and implement game strategies that will benefit the team moving forward. We must also not forget our opponents, Altrincham Kersal, for whom the game will also be a nice pre-season test to gauge where they are at in preparation for their own league campaign.
Everyone at Cyprus Rugby is excited again for the forthcoming season and very much looking forward to the game against Altrincham Kersal RFC. If you're in or around Manchester on the 5 August, please go along and support YOUR Mighty Mouflons!
Please look out for updates post-game and a further blog post, which we hope will give more of an insight into the game itself.
Ela Kypros!!
